It seems that every time I turn around, a friend or family member is adopting a pet.  In fact, 9 out of 10 of my most recent clients, have moved with their pets.  So I was thankful when John with Moving FC offered to write a guest blog talking about this very thing with tips for moving with dogs.

Are you a dog owner looking to move to a new home in Las Vegas, NV? Well, as most of us have already experienced, moving is very stressful and tiresome. However, it's important to not forget that moving can be very stressful for your furry friends as well. Dogs in their nature are territorial animals (even domesticated pets) so a change in environment could be very stressing experience for them. In the following infographic by Moving FC, you can learn about a number of moving tips that dog owners should consider before, during, and after a move.

Before the Big Move

Research is a very important step prior to making the actual move. It may sound like common sense but you should confirm that any real estate properties in your shortlist are pet-friendly. Fortunately, there are many pet-friendly properties and communities in Las Vegas but keep in mind that some of these properties may have specific rules regarding dog ownership. For example, they may not allow dogs of certain breeds and sizes. Other homes in the city of Las Vegas may also require you to register your dog first before you move in. Fortunately, this is when a real estate agent comes in handy as they are already equipped with such information. You may also want to look into new vets in the area and make sure they have no issues with dealing with your dog's breed and size.

During the Move

While the move is taking place, it is very important to keep your dog away from the hustle and bustle of moving. Ideally, it would be great to have a friend or family member take care of the dog while the household boxes are being transported out. If that's not an available option then move your dogs to a quiet, secure room and make sure they are kept entertained with fun toys. Also, another important tip to note is to feed your dogs a few hours before travelling. Your dogs could easily get an upset stomach if you feed them just before the start of the journey so avoid this mistake.

After the Move

Before you introduce your dog to the new home in Las Vegas, make sure you go through the entire property and remove anything that could be hazardous to your dog. Example items include household chemicals like dish soap, food and drinks that are toxic to dogs like alcohol, and poisonous plants. Next, don't let your dog explore the home as soon as you move in. That could get your dog overwhelmed and stressed. Instead, keep your dog in a "safe" zone for a few days then gradually introduce him or her to other parts of the home.
